Young musicians from the Vitebsk region have won several top awards at international competitions
Young musicians from the Vitebsk region won several top awards in March and April at international arts competitions.
March proved to be rich in victories and awards for Maria Skorinovа from Shumiilino Secondary School No. 1 named after Hero of the Soviet Union P.A. Akutsionok. At the XIV Moscow International Competition for Young Musicians "Magic Lyre," she participated in two nominations and received the highest jury evaluation in both. She was awarded the Grand Prix for her solo piano performance and for family music-making, where her older sister, Olga Skorinovа, an assistant conductor of the M.Y. Finberg National Academic Concert Orchestra of Belarus, assisted the young pianist.
"In her solo performance, Maria presented Tchaikovsky's complex piano piece 'Andante Maestoso' from the ballet 'The Nutcracker.' In the 'Family Music-Making' nomination, my student played the piano, and Olga played the cimbalom. The program consisted of two pieces – an arrangement of the Russian folk song 'Valenki,' which Maria herself arranged, and V. Olovnikov's lyrical 'Romance' from the film 'Spring Storms.' The musicians poured their hearts into their performance and did not leave the competent jury indifferent," shared music teacher Elena Skorinovа from Secondary School No. 1, for whom the success of each of her daughters is a double reward – both as a mentor and as a mother.
She mentioned that last month, Maria and her sister also participated remotely in the All-Russian Creative Olympiad with international participation "Sodruzhestvo" in the "Accompaniment Art" nomination. There, Masha became a laureate, and Olga Skorinovа received an award as the best illustrator of the Olympiad. The last day of March brought Maria another victory – at the VIII Open Republican Competition of Pianists named after V.V. Olovnikov in Bobruisk. "Maria tried very hard, so she performed excellently and became a laureate of the I degree in her age group. She also received an invitation from the jury to the final of the republican competition and to participate in master classes at the Belarusian State Academy of Music," said Elena Skorinovа.
Maria has been studying piano for over 10 years, and she has also mastered the cimbalom, and her performance on this instrument ishas equally impressed the jury of more than one competition.
Students of the Vitebsk Children's Art School named after A.V. Bogatyrev have had a winning streak of performances, including remotely. The students of teacher Olesya Kalacheva became the best in several creative competitions at once. Yaroslav Shabunya (in 2022 he was awarded a scholarship from the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the Support of Talented Youth) and Kirill Kalachev, in their age categories, became laureates of the I degree in the interregional competition of balalaika and domra players "Golden Strings of Siberia," held in Novosibirsk. The guys presented three pieces each on video. Diplomas of the same degree were awarded to the students from international competitions held in Tatarstan and Moscow, where they participated remotely, as well as from the republican open competition of folk instrument players "Zvonkiye Krynitsy" in Mogilev, where another student of Olesya Kalacheva, Alexey Ermachenko, was among the winners.
"At such competitions, the jury includes renowned teachers of folk instruments, and for our students, participating in such competitions is not only an incentive to win, but also an opportunity to hear from the masters what can be improved, as well as to make themselves and the Vitebsk balalaika school known. For aspiring musicians who want to achieve success in their chosen field, I believe it is very important to receive feedback, develop, strive for the best, and learn from their experience. If you add hard work to this, their talent will not fade," shared the teacher.
This year, young balalaika players from Vitebsk have been diligently preparing for the main event for them – the Republican Open Competition of Folk Instrument Players named after I.I. Zhinovich, which will be held in Lida in May. Yaroslav Shabunya will participate in it; he has successfully passed two qualifying rounds and will perform four complex pieces in the final, including those by Belarusian authors.
