No drastic economic moves are needed - A.Lukashenko

April 15, Minsk / Vladimir Matveev - BELTA /. No drastic moves are needed in the economy. This was stated today by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on current issues of socio-economic development of Belarus, a BELTA correspondent reports. "There should be no drastic moves, no sudden actions. Finance and money do not like this – chaos and drastic moves. And people have probably already grabbed everything they wanted. Therefore, let's build carefully and purposefully the policy that we must adhere to now," Alexander Lukashenko said. According to the head of state, neither the government nor the National Bank reacted in time to the trends occurring in the world. "We foresaw even before the presidential elections that we would be pressured purposefully and methodically, destabilizing the situation. This is what happened: first in the currency market, then in the food market, and then it exploded in the metro – a whole chain," the President said. "It is regrettable that today representatives of the National Bank and the government have gathered before the President and are waiting for some additional decisions. Can't you decide for yourselves, agree and make a coordinated decision, even if it is unpopular? The President has had his say, why are you waiting for further instructions?" the Belarusian leader noted. Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that all economic problems can be overcome on their own. "When they squeezed (in the currency market. - BELTA note), the inflow of currency from exports increased by 20% in April alone," the President emphasized. He stated that today "some processes have begun to subside, especially in the consumer market." "And there are already good shifts in the currency market. It's just a question of whether we should hurry and agitate people. You should never hurry anywhere, you need to give the process a chance to finish," the head of state noted. Addressing the participants of the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko stressed: "You cannot pressure people, although they are primarily the ones who created this situation. I said at "Dazhynki" last year that we will live in a calm mode and you (the Belarusian people. - BELTA note) don't worry, but if you create a stir – you will get it. You created it – you got it." As for the situation in the food market, he assured that the state is capable of satisfying any panic demand, whether for sugar, oil, or other products, and there is no need to turn apartments and garages into food warehouses. "But there is nothing to blame people for. Both we are to blame, and those who are feeding us these issues through the so-called media, creating a stir. We should have foreseen this, and this has been said more than once," he added. -0-
