Nikolai Cherginets: Belarusian writers should not be ashamed that they write a lot about war
Belarusian writers should not be ashamed of writing a lot about war. This opinion was expressed to journalists after a meeting at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee by the Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Nikolai Cherginets, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent.
During an introductory trip around the regions of the Vitebsk Oblast, about 30 members of the Union of Writers of Belarus visited the "Shunevka" memorial complex in the Dokshitsy District.
"What we saw at the site of the village destroyed by the fascists literally shook us and left a very strong impression. When you see this land, read the surnames of the perished people, you come to understand the full magnitude of the tragedy our people experienced. And so that this never happens again, creative people need to wake up and, with the help of words, fight against evil," said Nikolai Cherginets.
According to him, a virtual third world war is currently underway – a war of ideologies. Creative people play a very important role on this front. "We cannot allow history to be rewritten; we must return to the military theme again and again to preserve the truth about the war for the younger generation," emphasized the Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus.
A delegation from the Union of Writers of Belarus is visiting the regions of the Vitebsk Oblast. Today, representatives of the creative intelligentsia visited the "Shunevka" memorial complex and the Begoml Museum of Military Glory (Dokshitsy District). A meeting with the regional leadership was organized at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, and at the M. Gorky Library, cultural and educational workers gathered for a meeting with the writers. The writers also visited the Vitebsk State Medical University.
