The authority of the deputy corps should be strengthened by concrete actions, stated today the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev at an extraordinary session of the Regional Council of Deputies.

The session considered the issue of electing the head of the region's deputy corps. Vladimir Terentyev, who previously held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, was unanimously elected Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies.

Congratulating the new head, Nikolai Sherstnev noted the importance and responsibility of parliamentary work.

"It is important that all good initiatives and traditions are continued and multiplied. At the same time, it is necessary to give new impetus to the activities of the deputy corps, to raise its status, to make it more authoritative. And this can only be achieved through concrete actions," said the governor.

"The main task of the deputy corps is to help citizens solve their problems by actively interacting with the executive authorities," he added. Nikolai Sherstnev expressed confidence that the rich experience and impressive baggage of knowledge accumulated over the years of work will allow the chairman of the regional council to build his work effectively, bringing maximum benefit to the people.
