Nikolai Sherstnev: Deputies must actively work in their constituencies
On Sunday, residents of the Vitebsk region will elect 14 deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. 72 candidates are competing for the mandates. At 8 a.m., 768 polling stations opened their doors.
One of the first to vote at polling station No. 46, located at the Academy of Veterinary Medicine, was the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev. By the way, he once graduated from this very university. Competition in the Vitebsk-Oktyabrsky constituency is high: four candidates are vying for one seat. The chairman of the regional executive committee lingered in the voting booth for only a few seconds, after which, under the flashes of cameras, he approached the transparent ballot box and voted.According to Nikolai Sherstnev, everyone should find time to come to the polling station:
— Today is an important political event — we are deciding how we will live tomorrow, whom we will elect to Parliament, where these people will lead us. I think we should choose primarily based on professional qualities. After all, we are electing the best of the best — people who have already proven themselves, and they must be active in the sphere in which they will be involved — in lawmaking. The second equally important component of their activities is work in their constituencies. Deputies should be where life is bustling, where there are problems and joys, and where tasks will be set that they must solve.
There are almost 856 thousand people on the voter lists for the region. 38.26% of them exercised their right to early voting. All necessary conditions have been created for every citizen to exercise their right. In particular, the wishes of people with musculoskeletal disorders and elderly citizens have been taken into account. Almost 77% of polling stations are equipped with barrier-free environment elements, and about 78% are located on the first floors of buildings.
Over 550 mobile trade outlets have been set up at the polling stations. Exhibitions and sales, discounts on goods and services, promotional events, and food tastings are planned. A cultural program with performances by creative groups is scheduled at many polling stations. Various events, competitions, contests, and other activities will also be organized in the districts today.
