Nikolay Sherstnev on what he believes can change each of our lives for the better
One of the main issues of the VI All-Belarusian People's Congress, which will be held in the capital on February 11-12, will be the socio-economic development of the country for 2021-2025. The correspondent of the newspaper "7 Days" asked the heads of all six regions what, in their opinion, can change the life of each of us for the better.
Nikolai Sherstnev, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee:
- The growth of the population's welfare is inextricably linked with the creation of new high-tech industries and enterprises. The region has formed a package of 114 key investment projects totaling about Br6 billion.
To make the life of villagers no worse than urban residents, Vitebsk region has returned to the practice of building individual residential houses for agricultural enterprise workers - such as can already be seen today in Orshansky, Verkhnedvinsky, and Vitebsky districts. Every year, we extensively rebuild district centers that host "Dazhynki". In parallel, we are equipping two settlements in the region each. We intend to continue this practice.
By 2025, we will carry out the reconstruction of schools in each district, continue the formation of mobile general practitioner's offices, and the creation of inter-district support clinics. Such clinics already exist in Vitebsk, Orsha, Polotsk, Novopolotsk, and are being formed in Braslav, Lepel, and Glubokoye. New polyclinics and hospital buildings will appear in Orsha, Polotsk, and Postavy. Reconstruction awaits the Vitebsk Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital and the Regional Clinical Cardiology Center. A 150-bed interregional medical and rehabilitation center will appear in Miory.
In the creation of facilities for physical education and sports, we focus on indoor, quickly erected structures. Thanks to investors from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, a skating arena for figure skating will appear in Vitebsk. There are agreements on coaching support from the Russian Center for Figure Skating of Natalia Bestemianova and Igor Bobrin. There will be more sports grounds with artificial turf and exercise equipment, primarily based on educational institutions. And although they are created for young people, everyone can train there - there is enough space.
