Nikolay Sherstnev took part in the opening of the regional weightlifting championship in Orsha
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the participants of the event, the head of the region said that it is time to restore the lost glorious traditions of the Orsha region in weightlifting.
– Olympic medalists, world and European champions, a magnificent coaching staff – all this used to be, he emphasized. – Now our task is to restore the base, create conditions for sports. And I have no doubt that such small halls will be busy from morning till night. This means that we will provide opportunities for children to train and improve their health. Perhaps we will also raise champions.
The head of the district, Igor Isachenko, presented a certificate for 10,000 rubles from the Orsha District Executive Committee to the director of the sports school, Egor Boreiko. He expressed sincere gratitude to Nikolai Sherstnev for his help and support. The region was also congratulated on this significant event by the head of the sports and tourism department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vasily Zakharevich, the Chairman of the Board of OJSC "Bank BelVEB", Vasily Matushevsky, the head of the Vitebsk customs, Pavel Lobachev, and others.
– We will popularize this sport, attract more young people, – noted the head of the sports and tourism department of the Orsha District Executive Committee, Sergey Gvozdov. – The new hall provides an opportunity not just to train, but to do it at a professional level, to reach new heights.
Inspecting the equipment and talking with the young promising coach of the weightlifting department, Maxim Monvelyan, the chairman of the regional executive committee shared that he became interested in this sport in childhood and seriously took it up in his student years.
– Not for the sake of medals and diplomas, but to maintain good physical shape, – added the head of the region. – Today we are building ice palaces, swimming pools, athletics halls – this is huge money. Weightlifting, on the contrary, is an inexpensive pleasure. A small hall, the necessary equipment and inventory – and please, train and achieve success.
Nikolai Sherstnev noted that the next facility is a sports and recreation complex in the village of Babinichi, Orsha district. In the future, it will be used at full capacity, giving the complex a second life. A weightlifting hall will be opened, and a new building will be attached next to it – for team sports.
The dynamic development of the material and technical base, the availability of qualified coaching staff in the region allows the leading athletes of the region to annually replenish their collection of achievements with 150 medals of various merits over the past five years. 2019 was no exception, according to the results of which athletes from the region won 151 medals at international competitions, including 16 at the second II European Games, five of which were gold.
The Orsha district is also not left behind. Last year, its representatives won 14 medals at official international competitions, including Tatiana Sharakova's gold in cycling at the II European Games.
