Nikolai Sherstnev won the World Kettlebell Triathlon Championship and led the Belarusian national team to first place in the team relay.
The competitions were held in Grodno and gathered about 150 participants from 12 countries. Athletes in individual standings competed in several disciplines: marathon, bench press, kettlebell snatch, and clean and jerk. Spectators also saw demonstration performances by power jugglers and extreme athletes. For example, one of them lifted an 80 kg weight overhead with one hand!
The relay race was also bright and spectacular. Representatives of six countries fought for victory, with five people in each team. Nikolai Sherstnev performed in the Belarusian national team.
— It is a great rarity to see a leader of such a high rank among the participants of world-class competitions. Nikolai Nikolaevich demonstrated excellent physical shape and is a great example for his colleagues and youth, — said the chief judge of the championship, Evgeny Nazarevich.
Each athlete had to press a 32-kilogram kettlebell the maximum number of times in one minute. Nikolai Sherstnev showed the best result, lifting the two-pud weight 58 times. This achievement not only made a significant contribution to the national team's victory in the relay but also became an absolute world championship record.
— Regular barbell training helps me perform worthily in the cohort of the strongest athletes. It provides the strength and endurance necessary for lifting kettlebells against time, — noted Nikolai Nikolaevich.
Later, it became known that the head of the region had won a gold medal in the individual standings in absentia — none of the other medal contenders could surpass his achievement.
