Nikolai Sherstnev: development of agricultural enterprises is a priority for the Orsha region

Development of agriculture is a priority for the Orsha district. This was noted in a conversation with journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, who held a meeting with the region's and district's active members in Orsha.

The district's problems were discussed, focusing on solutions and priority development areas. Representatives of the district executive committee and enterprise managers shared their ideas. "As surprising as it may seem, given the large number of enterprises of republican ownership, it is agriculture and processing enterprises that currently form the main gross product of the district. These include the meat canning plant, the dairy plant, the flax mill, and the cheese factory. The products of these enterprises account for 60% of the total gross product. This figure speaks volumes about where the priorities lie," emphasized the head of the region. He noted that the focus should be on those productions that have proven their effectiveness. As for the mentioned processing enterprises, they have not yet exhausted their reserves.

"The meat canning plant is only operating at 35% capacity, and the dairy plant at just over 50%. It is obvious that we need to develop the raw material base, increase the production of meat and milk, while simultaneously improving production efficiency," added the governor. "If we can increase the volume of raw materials to fully utilize the capacity of the processing enterprises, we will immediately increase production volumes by 19-20%. This is a significant figure," stated Nikolai Sherstnev.

At the meeting, the active members of the region and district were tasked with thoroughly understanding the problems of each specific production. The largest number of issues has accumulated at enterprises of republican ownership. "Unfortunately, it is much more difficult for us to work with these enterprises. This is due to the fact that they are territorially ours, but in essence, the owners are the relevant Ministries. These are mainly enterprises of the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Architecture and Construction. Therefore, we have approached the government with a proposal to transfer these enterprises to communal ownership.

ownership. Someone must take responsibility for the decisions that will be made," the chairman of the regional executive committee emphasized.

He noted that this initiative was not born spontaneously; the leadership of the regional executive committee came to this conclusion after serious discussion. "Here, on the spot, we will be able to solve the problems of our enterprises more promptly and effectively," the governor is convinced. Nikolai Sherstnev noted that the most important thing now is to decide which path to take, how to implement plans, projects for development and modernization. The regional executive committee will seek solutions to complex issues together with the government. "We need to approach the matter in such a way that modernization affects every enterprise, the Orsha district gets firmly on its feet, residents receive decent wages, but above all, they have the opportunity to work. And for now, there is a problem with employment in the Orsha district. Therefore, within a month, we will work closely with all ministries and departments on problematic issues and look for ways to solve them," the head of the region summarized.

Currently, the unemployment rate in the Orsha district is 1.6% - this is the highest indicator in the region. The average salary is about Br580. At the same time, the district's potential is one of the highest in the region, and it can become one of the best in the country. As reported, in May, the government will hold an off-site meeting in the Orsha district, where the problems of the socio-economic development of the district will be considered in detail.
