Nikolai Sherstnev: Universities must train personnel in close contact with employers

Universities must train specialists in close contact with the enterprises where graduates will work. This was stated by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at a session of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies.

The session discussed the development of the education system in the Vitebsk region. The governor noted that the region's higher education system, among other things, requires significant improvement.

"University graduates come to production unprepared. Young specialists are unfamiliar with the conditions and requirements that exist in production because they are trained using old methods and are not familiar with modern equipment," the governor said. - "Students do not have adequate practical training because universities lack connections with the enterprises where graduates will work."

Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized that a university should be a center of advanced scientific thought. "When starting modernization, the enterprise management should consult with university specialists to choose the most advanced and perfect technologies and avoid mistakes. Currently, education and production exist separately," stated the head of the region, adding that this is a very serious problem that needs to be promptly resolved. The governor stressed that only through close contact and joint work of the education system and the national economy complex can the quality of personnel training be significantly improved and efficiency in enterprise operations be achieved.
