XXIII International Chagall Readings will be held in Vitebsk on June 15-16, as reported to a BELTA correspondent at the Marc Chagall Museum.

Art historians, historians, and archivists from Belarus, Russia, and Israel have shown interest in the scientific and practical conference. The scholars will present reports, articles, and research related to the life and work of Marc Chagall and the influence the artist had on world culture and history.

The topics of the presentations are more intriguing than ever. Tatyana Alyoshka, Candidate of Philological Sciences (Minsk), will speak about Marc Chagall's lost memoirs, and Lyudmila Vakar, Doctor of Art History (Vitebsk), will discuss the intersection of the poetic worlds of Marc Chagall and Elena Guro. Vitebsk archivist Vladimir Kokhanko will present an archival find – a restoration project for house No. 26 on Bolshaya Zhores Street (now house No. 11 on Pokrovskaya Street in Vitebsk, where the Marc Chagall House-Museum is located). Olga Levin (Israel) will present her version of Marc and Bella's love at the readings. The researcher claims that there were two Bellas in the artist's life. Her report is titled "Two Bellas – Two Destinies."

During the conference, the collection "Marc Chagall and Petersburg" will be presented, and an exhibition of Marc Chagall's portraits, painted from life by Prince Alexey Obolensky in 1977, will be showcased.

The International Chagall Readings are held annually in Vitebsk. The first reports dedicated to Marc Chagall were delivered in Vitebsk in January 1991, during the All-Union Readings. Since 1992, the scientific and practical conference has become international. Over the years, dozens of researchers from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, France, Great Britain, Switzerland, the USA, Israel, Germany, Latvia, and other countries have participated. Most of the readings' materials have been published in the issues of "Chagall Collection" and the "Bulletin of the Marc Chagall Museum."
