A new multidisciplinary polyclinic has opened in the Yug-7 microdistrict in Vitebsk
A multidisciplinary modern polyclinic has opened in the Yug-7 microdistrict of Vitebsk, which is a unique healthcare facility for the region.
In the new premises of 18 thousand sq.m. at 2 General Margelov Street, medical staff will receive about one and a half thousand patients per shift. The polyclinic's service area includes approximately 55 thousand adult residents, primarily residents of the nearby microdistricts – Yug-5, Yug-6, Yug-7, Yug-7A, and Medtsentr.
It should be recalled that the construction of the polyclinic began back in 2009, but due to funding interruptions, work was periodically stalled, and the facility became a long-term construction project. Only in 2017 did the matter seriously move forward. A solution was found with the help of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, which provided a 25 million bond loan on maximally comfortable terms for the city.
To meet the deadlines, construction workers from Stroyтрест №9 of Vitebsk, the general contractor of the facility, worked in three shifts during the final stage. A total of over 30 million rubles were spent on work, materials, and medical equipment.
Vitebsk residents watched the construction with interest, awaiting the opening of the polyclinic in the densely populated part of the city. The significance of this facility for the regional center was also emphasized by the Mayor of Vitebsk, Viktor Nikolaikin:
– The Yug microdistrict has existed for about 20 years, but it so happened that until now it has been deprived of its own polyclinic. Therapeutic areas were located in polyclinics No. 3 on Moskovsky Prospekt and No. 2 on Markovshchina, which were inconvenient for people to reach, which is why they often appealed to the executive committee with a request to build a healthcare institution at their place of residence. The newly built center not only improves the service for the local population but also significantly unloads other polyclinics. For example, polyclinic No. 3 has freed up capacity to serve newcomers to the Bilevo microdistrict, where the main city development is taking place.
On the eve of March 8, the symbolic red ribbon was cut. The solemn opening was attended by the Prime Minister of Belarus, Sergei Rumas, who, while still the Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, personally contributed to resolving the issue of the long-term construction. Also present at the ceremony were the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev, Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Yuri Derkach, and other regional leaders.
The new healthcare institution presented a wide range of medical services. In terms of technical equipment, the polyclinic is more like a modern medical center. It houses 4 therapeutic areas for adult patients, a women's clinic, a children's clinic, and a dental clinic. Among the narrow specialists, there are also an ophthalmologist, a gastroenterologist, an allergist, a nephrologist, etc. In total, over 540 positions have been introduced in the polyclinic center, of which almost 150 are for doctors.
A rich diagnostic base. In addition to standard laboratory and other tests performed in every polyclinic, computed tomography and mammography will be carried out here. By the way, until now, CT scans were the prerogative of large medical centers and hospitals.
The rehabilitation direction is also well represented, with a swimming pool for recovery procedures. In addition, the polyclinic center will become a base for the Department of General Practice of the Vitebsk State Medical University.
– For broad public access to medical services and the polyclinic's capabilities, shared access centers have been created based on the ophthalmology department (with a laser vision correction room), radiology and ultrasound diagnostics departments, a clinical diagnostic laboratory, and much more, – said the **Chief Physician of the Vitebsk City Central Polyclinic, Stanislav Tityevich**.
Additionally, screening centers have been established for the early detection of breast and prostate cancer, larynx, lung, cervical, and intestinal cancers for residents of the regional center and assigned districts. The population will be provided with orthopedic dental care using digital technologies and other medical services at a highly professional level.
The new building provides comfortable conditions for medical staff and patient stays. For the latter, it is extremely important that there is a children's playroom where parents can leave their children under the supervision of specialists during their doctor's visit.
– The health of citizens and investments in healthcare are among the most important priorities of our President Alexander Lukashenko. The state, under any economic conditions, will find funds to invest in this sphere. Only a healthy nation can ensure the dynamic development of our country, – emphasized **Prime Minister Sergei Rumas**.
– Much is being done in healthcare in the Vitebsk region. Over the past year, about 20 medical facilities have been commissioned, some have been modernized, and others have been renovated. Among the major projects are hospitals in Orsha, Miory, and district hospitals in Kopys and Bolbasovo in the Orsha district, – concluded **Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev**.
