A new dormitory for students of the medical college has been built in Vitebsk

Новое общежитие для студентов медицинского колледжа построено в Витебске

A venture started in the rain will be successful. This folk wisdom was timely on Thursday – the staff of the medical college was celebrating a housewarming, and despite the drizzle, many people gathered near the renovated building of dormitory No. 3. Among them were high-ranking guests led by the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Terentyev, the management of the educational institution with Director Valentina Zayats, and, of course, the residents of the dormitory with Head Irina Naidovich.

It was impossible to determine who exactly became the hero of the day. Flowers and kind words from the college staff were addressed to everyone thanks to whom the building at number 20 on Lomonosov Street was transformed before our eyes. This includes the regional leadership, specifically the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets, who deeply understands the importance of a dormitory for students who came to Vitebsk from afar to study, as well as the designers (Vitebsktorghproekt), the builders (construction company Rust), and the employees of the firm Stroyinzhiniringservis, who carried out technical supervision of the construction and ensured the acceptance of the facility. Significant funds (over 10 billion rubles) were invested in the reconstruction, but these are real investments in the future. The 129 young people who have settled in the dormitory will soon be guarding the health of Belarusians.

The celebration turned out to be touching and warm. Vladimir Terentyev, greeting those gathered, noted that the young people now have a wonderful second home, where it is comfortable to live, study, and work, and this is a manifestation of the state's real care for the younger generation. Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Tsetsoho, who once headed the college, rejoiced for his former colleagues and students. A cause for special pride was the sensational news that the educational institution was founded earlier, in 1921 (archival materials were found), which means the 100th anniversary is not far off.

The housewarming, as Valentina Zayats noted, is actually the first gift for the anniversary. Elena Davydenko, Chairperson of the Student Council, on behalf of the new residents, sincerely thanked the authorities, the builders, and the college administration for their generosity.

Then there was a tour of the building, during which the guests did not hide their satisfaction. Cozy block-type rooms for 2-3 residents with bathrooms and showers, spacious lounges, classrooms, comfortable kitchens, a laundry room – all with new furniture and modern equipment! The sports room with exercise equipment, furnished with the help of the healthcare workers' trade union regional committee, was impressive. Vladislav Muzhichenko, Chairperson of the regional committee, commenting on the acquisition, noted that the equipment was selected with the help of the physical education laboratory, and Vladimir Terentyev, having tried one of the exercise machines, appreciated its capabilities.

The open house at the dormitory continued after the official part. Most of the young people who settled here are from large and single-parent families, families affected by the Chernobyl disaster, orphans, and people with disabilities. The next guests were precisely the parents and relatives of the new residents. One father could not believe his ears when he learned that his daughter would pay only 40 thousand rubles a month for a luxurious room with all amenities – a pittance compared to the amount she paid while living in a rented apartment. The brief fatherly "thank you!" was more eloquent than any other words.

As informed by Vladimir Terentyev, next year it is planned to commission a student dormitory on Tereshkova Street in order to completely solve the housing problem for students of the medical college and several other educational institutions in the city.
