A new dormitory for VGMU students with almost 500 places has been put into operation
This is already the second housewarming at VSMU in the current academic year. On September 1, the first phase of a modern dormitory complex designed for over a thousand places was commissioned. The first 500 people have already settled in, and now the remaining lucky ones can prepare for the move.
The new 16-story building of dormitory No. 8 will become home to another 470 students during their studies at the university. The complex of two dormitories completely solves the problem of providing housing for students in need at the university.
– For many years, our youngest students, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to live in a dormitory. Now we are breaking this unnecessary tradition, – noted **Anatoly Shchastny, Rector of VSMU**, and handed over a symbolic order for settlement to Inna Naboka, a first-year student of the pharmaceutical university.
– The construction of the dormitory complex is a serious project. When making the decision, we wanted to create healthy, home-like conditions for students. This raises both the rating and competitiveness in the international market. After all, both our compatriots and foreign students, as well as scientists who come under exchange programs, will live in the new dormitory, – said Anatoly Tadeuszewicz, emphasizing that the first building was completely erected and equipped at the expense of the university's extra-budgetary funds.
Minister of Health Valery Malashko said that the main source of funding for the construction of the new building was the funds allocated within the state investment program. Resources saved during public procurement of medicines and medical equipment were also utilized.
– This is an investment in our youth. The modern dormitory provides comfortable living and study conditions for future medical professionals. Students will be able to fully concentrate on their studies and knowledge acquisition without being distracted by everyday issues. No more than five people will be accommodated in a two-room unit with a kitchen and bathroom, and each will have a convenient workspace. The new building is part of the complex and has access to the fitness and gym facilities of the 7th dormitory, which was commissioned at the beginning of the academic year, – emphasized the head of the Ministry of Health.
