Novopolotsk resident checked the readiness of the security forces of his hometown for terrorist attacks
November 8, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A resident of Novopolotsk tested the readiness of his hometown's law enforcement agencies for terrorist attacks, the press group of the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region informed a BELTA correspondent.
"On November 3, from 12:56 to 13:06, the duty unit of the Novopolotsk City Department of Internal Affairs received reports about the discovery of a suspicious package with possible explosive content near one of the city's stores on Kalinin Street, as well as near the entrance of a residential building on Molodezhnaya Street. Units of law enforcement agencies and special services that arrived at the specified locations immediately took comprehensive measures to ensure public safety and examine the package. No explosives were found, but the obviously provocative nature of the incident is evident," the press group reported. They also explained that the man left the package in one place and then moved it to another.
Operational search activities carried out by the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region and the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee established and reliably confirmed that a repeatedly convicted 38-year-old resident of Novopolotsk, a worker at a local construction organization, is directly involved in both reports. The Novopolotsk City Department of the Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case against him under Part 1 of Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (knowingly false report of danger), which provides for up to five years of imprisonment.
The man has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. -0-
