Novopolotsk resident Svetlana Sakhanenko brought Belarus a gold medal at the Pyeongchang Paralympics
This is already the second medal for our athlete at the current Paralympic Games. Previously, she won bronze in biathlon, taking third place in the 6 km sprint.
Svetlana Sakhonenko, like Olympic champion of Pyeongchang Irina Krivko, is a graduate of the Novopolotsk Olympic Reserve School. She now lives in Minsk, but often visits her hometown to see her mother.
Another compatriot, Lidiya Grafeeva from Novolukoml, took third place in the 6 km sprint among athletes with musculoskeletal disorders. Her husband, Dmitry Loban, also became a silver medalist in the 7.5 km sprint.
Before the trip to South Korea, the Chairman of the Paralympic Committee of Belarus, Oleg Shepel, set the athletes the goal of winning five medals. In the first days of the competition, our athletes already have six awards (one gold, three silver, two bronze) and ninth place in the medal standings. And there are still five days until the closing of the Games. By the way, at the last Paralympics in Sochi, Belarus had three bronze medals.
