Novopolotsk declared war on drunkenness

August 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Novopolotsk will combat drunkenness. The oil city has approved a plan of measures for the implementation of the resolution of the first city people's assembly "Indifference is the path to a reliable society," the ideology department of the Novopolotsk city executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

Starting tomorrow, all retail outlets selling alcohol and beer will display information sheets about the risk of fatal alcohol poisoning from excessive consumption, and by September, anti-alcohol advertising will appear on streets and in public buildings. The city police department, together with the trade department, will monitor and limit places selling alcohol by the end of the current year.

The start of the academic year in Novopolotsk will be marked by a Day of Sobriety. Although it will not be the first time it is held, starting this year, sports and cultural events aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle will be held on such days. Days of Sobriety in Novopolotsk will be held monthly, as will the "Morning of Sobriety" campaign, which restricts the availability of alcoholic, low-alcohol beverages, and beer from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Starting in September, a "sobriety route" will run through the city once a month, with audio lectures on the problems of drunkenness being broadcast on public transport. From the same time, restrictions on the advertising of any alcoholic beverages and beer, as well as alcoholic and beer brands within the city limits, will come into effect.

As explained by the ideology department, the authorities of Novopolotsk decided to develop a system of measures to counteract harmful addiction with the help of citizens and convened the first city people's assembly in July. Representatives of work collectives of enterprises, institutions, organizations, and public associations adopted a resolution after discussing the problem, which became an action plan for the prevention of drunkenness and alcoholism for 2011-2015. -0-
