Novopolotsk will join the patriotic game 'The Great Patriotic War'

The Russian heroic-patriotic club "General" has proposed cooperation with Novopolotsk in the sphere of military-patriotic education through the game "The Great Patriotic War". This agreement was one of the outcomes of the XIII Novopolotsk Youth Forum "The Present Time", as reported by the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee.

The forum is taking place in the city from December 10-12, and its honored guests included representatives of youth activists from the Russian cities of Elektrostal, Kstovo, Odintsovo, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, and the Pushkinsky District of St. Petersburg.

"Our club is engaged in the study and reconstruction of Soviet border troops of the 1936 model. To attract young people aged 11 and up to club activities, we started using the board game 'The Great Patriotic War' four years ago. It successfully combines with the study of historical material, making the process unusual and engaging. Large-scale events and tournaments can be held based on the game. This is how we reached the national, and then the international level. And we are interested in attracting young people from our sister city to this," explained the head of the "General" club and director of the Odintsovo Museum of Local Lore, Andrey Tkachuk.

The guests presented Novopolotsk with 2 starter kits of the game, each for 6 people. They contain creative kits for assembling and painting miniatures of troops, which serve as game pieces. Thus, Novopolotsk will now be able to hold tournaments between the city's schools, timed to coincide with an important historical battle of the Great Patriotic War era, reconstructing those events on a small scale.

"We are ready to provide methodological assistance, explain the essence of the game mechanics: how to teach children and conduct tournaments. Organize master classes on assembling game pieces and painting them. Subsequently, the children themselves will become master game technicians. And we will gladly bring all our resources for a one-time tournament with the participation of 120 to 240 people. Such an event includes film screenings, exhibitions, and other components of military-patriotic education," added Andrey Tkachuk.

During the forum, a meeting was held with the city's leadership at the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, where, incidentally, an agreement was reached on the participation of Novopolotsk art groups in the holidays and festivals of twin cities in 2016. In addition, a series of round tables on various issues took place. Guests visited the Olympic Reserve College, familiarized themselves with the working conditions of young specialists at the Novopolotsk Central City Hospital, and exchanged experiences on the student team movement. At OJSC "Naftan", the Russians witnessed the solemn ceremony of initiating young specialists into "Naftanovtsy" and "Polimirovtsy". Important events during these days included summing up the year's results and awarding the best representatives of Novopolotsk's youth aktiv in 9 nominations.

The organizers of the forum are the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee and the city organization of BRSM.
