Novopolotsk develops cooperation with the Serbian city of Niš in the field of healthcare
Novopolotsk is developing cooperation with the Serbian city of Niš in the healthcare sector, the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
In the evening of December 8, a delegation from Serbia arrived in the city on an official visit to establish contacts and exchange experience between healthcare institutions of Serbia and Belarus. The General Director of the Clinical Center of Niš, Professor Zoran Radanović, the Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Clinical Center, Doctor Veroljub Pejčić, and the General Director of the Ribarska Banja Special Hospital, Doctor Dušan Šokorac, met with the Chairperson of the City Executive Committee, Natalya Kochanova, shared their first impressions of the city, and agreed on a return visit by an expanded delegation from Novopolotsk to Serbia in 2015.
Immediately after the official meeting at the City Executive Committee, the guests attended a working conference on experience exchange in hernia surgery, which was also attended by representatives of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department, doctors from medical institutions in districts near Novopolotsk, and the Vitebsk State Medical University. Doctor Veroljub Pejčić delivered a report at the central city hospital and then performed a demonstration surgery to remove an anterior abdominal wall hernia using the latest equipment of this medical institution. The Serbian doctor will perform another series of surgeries on December 10. The delegation will also visit the Naftan sanatorium-resort.
"The first contacts with Serbia were established last year when a delegation from Novopolotsk visited the city of Kruševac, and after that, they paid a return visit to us on City Day. Now, connections have been established in a specific direction for possible cooperation. We will continue to look for common ground - in culture, education, and economy, after which a protocol of intent will be developed. In the future, we can talk about the prospects of establishing sister city relations. By the way, Novopolotsk medics are very actively establishing contacts with colleagues from sister cities. In August of this year, they visited the Latvian city of Ludza, and in December-January, they will go to Ventspils. This confirms that the sister city ties already established by Novopolotsk with 17 cities around the world are further developing in various fields," the city executive committee said.
