Novopolotsk gamers play at separate waste collection

October 28, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. An unusual disc with 12 thematic computer games on ecology and energy saving has been created by the Novopolotsk extracurricular education center, the center's director Natalia Seryakova told a BELTA correspondent. The collection for gamers became the result of a creative competition among programmers aged 10 to 21, which was held by the extracurricular education center with the support of the European Union and the UNDP program "Sustainable Development at the Local Level". The theme of the competition entries was the problem of separate waste collection. As it turned out, it was not difficult for talented computer specialists to come up with exciting and useful games that foster environmental awareness. 14 contestants took part in the competition, presenting their works to the jury. 12 games, designed for different age categories and different levels of player training, were recognized as winners and were duplicated. It is expected that the discs will be distributed in educational institutions of Novopolotsk and Polotsk, as well as in schools in neighboring districts. According to Natalia Seryakova, even foreign gamers have shown interest in them. Next year, the extracurricular education center intends to hold an open regional competition "Eco-Gamer" for playing a computer game on separate waste collection. The city computer game is not the only creative finding in the environmental education of schoolchildren at the Novopolotsk center. Here, the mobile ecological theater "Muraveynik" (Anthill) has been created and is successfully touring the region, and the megalithic objects of the Polotsk Stonehenge have been improved for the "green" route "Star Diadem of Polochchina". All these projects are also supported by the joint program of the EU and UNDP. -0-
