The Novopolotsk biomechanical plant plans to reach its design capacity for waste processing by 2012

January 25, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Production unitary enterprise "Biomech Plant for Secondary Resources Recycling" (Novopolotsk) plans to reach its design capacity for waste processing by 2012, Deputy Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee Albert Shakel told a BELTA correspondent. The enterprise for receiving, sorting, processing and utilizing solid household waste (SHW) was commissioned last year. The plant's capacities, equipped with equipment from the German company LEMANN, allow processing 65 thousand tons of SHW per year, as well as extracting up to 20% of secondary material resources (waste paper, plastics, textiles, cullet). Currently, the plant's sorting line is operating at full capacity, and the utilization of equipment for processing separated waste is less than 50%, which significantly limits the enterprise's capabilities. To solve this problem, it is planned to organize separate waste collection on a city-wide scale by installing special containers for plastics, glass, waste paper, and textiles in all entrances of residential buildings. To date, 400 such containers have been installed in Novopolotsk. It is planned to purchase about a thousand more this year. In parallel, an extensive information campaign has been launched in Novopolotsk to improve the environmental literacy of the population. The Production Unitary Enterprise "Biomech Plant for Secondary Resources Recycling" was commissioned in 2010. Investments in its creation amounted to Br26 billion. The number of employees is about 100 people. -0-
