New data on the history of medicine and pharmacy in Belarus will be presented at a conference in Vitebsk

Scientists and specialists from medical universities and healthcare institutions of Belarus will present new data on the history of medicine and pharmacy in the country at the XI Republican Scientific and Practical Conference, which will be held in Vitebsk on November 3. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vasily Glushanko, Head of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare of the Vitebsk State Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. The scientific forum will bring together more than 100 participants from all regions of the country in the regional center; representatives from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania have also shown interest in it. During the plenary sessions, the results of research works on the history of socially significant areas of medical and pharmaceutical activities, and the history of the creation and development of medical and pharmaceutical organizations will be considered. Some reports will be dedicated to the life and professional path of outstanding scientists and practitioners of Belarusian healthcare. An important area of research for specialists is the study of the history of medical science, education, and the development of medicine and healthcare as a whole; a significant part of the reports will be devoted to these topics, noted Vasily Glushanko. As the interlocutor emphasized, historical research is of great importance for forecasting and planning further ways and directions for improving healthcare. A collection of materials will be published based on the results of the conference. The conference is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vitebsk Medical University and the 50th anniversary of the Belarusian Scientific Society of Historians of Medicine and Pharmacy (BSNHMP). During the forum, the results of the society's activities and the promising directions of the BSNHMP's work will be discussed.
