New computed tomography scanners have been put into operation in Orsha, Polotsk, and Braslav

Three computed tomography scanners have been put into operation in the Vitebsk region. Since January 1, they have been serving patients in healthcare facilities in Orsha, Polotsk, and Braslav, reported Yuri Derkach, head of the main department for healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, member of the Council of the Republic.

The VENTUM-64 apparatuses, manufactured by the domestic enterprise ADANI, which allow for a wide range of standard and special CT examinations, were supplied at the expense of the Ministry of Health in March last year. At the expense of the local budget, reconstruction and preparation of special premises for their installation were carried out in the hospitals. These works were fully completed in December.

Currently, there are 10 units of this medical equipment operating in the region: five in healthcare facilities in Vitebsk (two in the regional hospital, one each in the diagnostic center, oncology dispensary, and a multidisciplinary clinic in the Yug-7 microdistrict), as well as in Novopolotsk, Braslav, Polotsk, and Orsha. In the latter city, another 6-slice tomograph is in operation. "It has been working since 2008 and will now be used mainly as a backup until it is completely out of service, as equipment of this series is no longer produced. To extend its service life, a similar broken-down apparatus was brought from Polotsk for spare parts," noted Yuri Derkach.

Residents of Orsha, Tolochin and Dubrovno districts will undergo examinations using the new CT scanner in Orsha. Similar service zones were determined for other devices.

Regarding the plans for the current year, Yuri Derkach noted that another CT scanner is planned to be installed in Lepel, and MRI scanners in Polotsk and Orsha. Thanks to this approach, five inter-district centers with vascular neurology departments will be formed in the region, where neuroimaging will be performed with subsequent treatment: in Vitebsk, Orsha, Lepel, Braslav and Polotsk.
