New high-capacity trolleybuses have embarked on their first journey through the streets of Vitebsk
The 433 family of trolleybuses is the latest product, where modern electronics are successfully combined with high-quality materials and progressive urban design. The prototypes underwent rigorous operational tests in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and are now successfully operating in Rivne, Ukraine. The batch of trolleybuses for Vitebsk is distinguished not only by its design features but also by its special yellow color scheme.
This is a high-capacity vehicle, accommodating 170 passengers. A significant advantage is its autonomous running capability, which allows it to serve routes both with and without overhead contact lines. The exterior body panels are made of easily replaceable composite materials that are resistant to corrosion. The interior features plastic and aluminum panels. The bright and spacious cabin has a low, single-level floor, which is appreciated by passengers. The designers have also considered the needs of people with disabilities. A system for lowering the floor level at the entrance doors, as well as designated spaces and special fastenings for wheelchairs, are provided.
— We will use the new equipment on route No. 12 "Railway Station – Bilevo-3," — says Viktor Kozhukh, Deputy Director of the Vitebsk City Electric Transport branch of Vitebskoblavtotrans JSC. — There is no contact network in densely populated microdistricts yet, but the demand for transportation is high. Currently, single-section trolleybuses with autonomous running capability operate there. Increasing the fleet with more spacious units will significantly reduce waiting times at stops. We plan to increase the number of such trolleybuses, which will eventually allow us to expand the network of city routes. Another one is expected to arrive in Vitebsk in February.
Servicing the new vehicles will require additional personnel. Considering the prospect of fleet expansion and modernization, the branch has already announced recruitment for trolleybus driver courses for those who will be able to operate the most modern equipment.
Vitebsk solemnly welcomed these long trolleybuses, which are still unusual for the townspeople. On the last day of 2019, a solemn presentation of the newcomers took place on Victory Square, after which they set off on their first trip. The route: Victory Square – railway station, and then – a test run to the Bilevo-3 microdistrict. Ahead – technical run-in, after which industrial operation will begin.
