A new building was opened at the Vitebsk Regional Center for Rehabilitation of Internationalist Soldiers

The opening of a new building for the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Center for Medical Rehabilitation for Disabled Persons and Veterans of Military Operations in Other States took place today with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Petrishenko, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Belarus – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Anatoly Linevich, and other honored guests.

The attention to this facility is not accidental; the former long-term unfinished construction project was included in the State Investment Program. Throughout the project implementation period, over 11.6 million rubles from the republican and local budgets have been allocated for construction work and equipment.

– This center is intended not only for residents of the Vitebsk region but for the entire country. Annually, about 2.5 thousand patients receive the necessary medical rehabilitation assistance here, about 82% of whom are people of working age. And the previous infrastructure was indeed insufficient. 60 beds have been added, and the innovative equipment with which the center is now equipped is an important element for the team to set the tone in rehabilitation on a republican scale, so that people, upon returning from the center, are maximally strengthened in terms of health and can work productively, – emphasized Igor Petrishenko. – I would like to express special thanks to the staff of the institution for uniting during the COVID-19 pandemic, standing up for the health of our citizens, providing assistance to patients with coronavirus infection. During the period of re-profiling, 1.3 thousand patients were treated at the center. This is also a crucial challenge that the team successfully overcame.

On the very first day, regular patients of the center were able to test the new rehabilitation base. Among them are the internationalist soldier Vasily Kovalevich and his wife Liliya from Pinsk.

– We have been coming here for ten years. If it weren't for the local specialists, I would have probably retired long ago, but as it is, I intend to serve in the Ministry of Emergency Situations for another year. Here, you can both physically rest and get good medical treatment; after a two-week stay, you feel full of energy. I am sure that in new facilities and with new methods, recovery will be even better, – says the man. By the way, his twin brother, who went through the combat path in Afghanistan with him, also seeks help from Vitebsk rehabilitation specialists.

The commissioning of the new building has not only helped to expand and improve specialized care for Afghan war veterans, who undergo rehabilitation here every year from all over the country, and to diagnose concomitant diseases, but also to provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation for the region's population.

The installed high-tech equipment allows local specialists to implement new methods of restorative treatment for patients after injuries, strokes, and cerebrovascular diseases.

As noted by the chief physician of the institution, Vladislav Murzichenko, with the completion of the reconstruction, the team received a multifunctional cluster with a modern medical and diagnostic complex and unique rehabilitation methods, which became possible thanks to the consistently and systematically implemented state social policy, at the center of which is the person, their needs, including health.

In turn, the head of the region noted the need to renovate the main building of the medical institution.

– There is a lot of work ahead – interesting and, most importantly, necessary, – Alexander Subbotin summed up. He also joined in congratulating the staff and their families on the upcoming winter holidays, wishing them optimism in the difficult task of treating and rehabilitating people.
