The new lyceum of Vitebsk State University has admitted its first cohort of students
The first 72 students will begin their studies at the Lyceum of Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, which opened today, a BELTA correspondent reports.
There was a competition of almost 2 people per place for admission to the new educational institution. Talented high school students from their Vitebsk region, as well as from Gomel region, will study here. The lyceum is located in the building of the art and graphics faculty of VSU, and all the sports, scientific, and creative facilities of the university will be available to the lyceum students.
Daniil Mikhailov, a resident of Novolukoml, will take his first steps towards his future profession at the lyceum. His parents supported their son's aspiration to receive a decent education. The young man chose the chemical and biological track. He admitted that it was not easy to get admitted here, but the young man is glad that he managed to overcome all the exams and join the ranks of the lyceum students. In the future, he plans to dedicate his life to medicine. Daniil is also keen on biathlon and will be able to defend the sports honor of the lyceum in competitions. He will live in a dormitory in the regional center. The newly admitted lyceum student said that the living conditions, from his point of view, are ideal: he has two neighbors, one of whom will study in the same track as him.
A total of three profiles are open at the lyceum - physics and mathematics, chemistry and biology, and humanitarian. The students will be taught not only by the lyceum teachers but also by university professors. Lyceum students will be able to join the cultural and social life of the university on an equal footing with first-year students. As noted by the director of the educational institution, Natalia Shcheglova, the most important thing for students is to remain themselves, as they have already impressed future educators with their knowledge, winning the competitive struggle and enrolling in the lyceum.
Warm wishes on this cool day were expressed to the students by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin. "VSU has become a center of the educational process, and the new lyceum has supplemented the learning cycle in the chain of school and university. I wish you interesting and fruitful work, and teachers - patience and optimism," said the head of the region.
The lyceum students were also congratulated on Knowledge Day by the Deputy Minister of Education, Alexander Kadlubay. He noted that the opening of such an educational institution is a significant event for the youth capital of Belarus. "Guys, here you will be able to decide which professions to choose. I want to wish you success in the Olympiad movement, parents - to become the closest allies of your children, inspire them to achieve, teach them to love their homeland, and appreciate the people who are next to them," the deputy minister addressed the students.-0-
