The new bridge over the Western Dvina will connect Novopolotsk and Polotsk in 2013
January 12, Novopolotsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A new bridge across the Western Dvina will connect Novopolotsk and Polotsk in 2013. The order for the construction of the new facility was given today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during a working trip to Novopolotsk, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The need to build a second bridge across the Western Dvina, connecting the oldest and youngest cities, has been brewing for a long time - the existing bridge has low throughput and does not meet modern requirements. By the governor's order, design documentation will be developed by September of this year, and design and survey work will begin immediately. The length of the new bridge will be 126 m. Its construction will require Br60-70 billion. Br1 billion will be allocated from the regional budget for design work. The standard construction period for such structures is 24 months. Thus, in 2013, a new bridge will connect Polotsk and Novopolotsk. It is assumed that a tram will run on it.
According to Alexander Kosinets, the two cities, the distance between which does not exceed 8 km, need to organize social infrastructure in such a way that it can be used without hindrance by both Polotsk residents and Novopolotsk residents. At the same time, budget funds should not be scattered on the construction of identical facilities. For example, Novopolotsk has a modern cardiology department at the city hospital, so there is no need to build the same one in Polotsk. In Polotsk, it is better to build a modern obstetrics and gynecology complex, the governor believes. The construction of the Ice Palace in Novopolotsk should be carried out in a place that would be convenient for Polotsk residents to reach. Alexander Kosinets instructed to develop a development program for Novopolotsk in the context of the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk, which will be celebrated in 2012. -0-
