A new bridge in the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve has connected the Vitebsk and Minsk regions
The structure, built by the 188th Guards Novgorod Red Banner, Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov II Class Engineering Brigade (Mogilev), has connected the banks of the Berezina River in the Brody tract area.
The reserve reported that the new bridge solves an important logistical task, directly connecting the districts of the two regions, but most importantly, the nearby villages of Brody and Kraitsy.
Previously, to get to the opposite side of the river, it was necessary to travel about 60 km along a detour road through Begoml, which caused certain difficulties for local residents working on the other bank, or for tourists wishing to visit the reserve.
Even the employees of the environmental protection institution had to spend significantly more time inspecting territories located across the river.
A bridge connecting the Dokshitsy and Borisov districts existed here before. The wooden structure, built in 2006, served for more than 10 years, after which, for safety reasons, it was used exclusively for passenger cars, and then only for pedestrians.
The depth of the Berezina River, where the new bridge is installed, is currently 4.5 m, and the piles were driven to a length of 11 m. This is due to the fact that the riverbed in this place is very silty, with a large layer of bottom sediments and stones.
Officers of the 188th Guards Engineering Brigade developed the project for the structure and performed all the necessary calculations. By the way, this is the third bridge of this type built by this brigade in Belarus this year.
