Vitebsk region's Ministry of Emergency Situations employees told about simple safety rules for children
— The long-awaited moment has come, and the child has gone to school. As a rule, during this period, parents begin to teach them independence. But even at such moments, it will not be superfluous to play it safe, — advised Yulia Pokholkina, senior inspector of the Center for Life Safety and Interaction with the Public of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. — For example, when leaving children at home alone, even for a short time, put sharp objects, knives, matches and lighters, medicines, and household chemicals away. Such items should be stored in inaccessible places.
At the age of six to seven, a child should know their address, full name, and the full names of their parents, neighbors, grandmother, and grandfather. Leave them all possible means of communication. And attach the numbers for calling emergency services in a visible place.
— The basis of a child's safety is also the knowledge of elementary Traffic Rules, — noted Yulia Nikolaevna. — They should be taught gradually, starting with the simple. It is better to choose one route from school to home, avoiding poorly lit or sparsely populated areas and gateways.
Simulate situations, discuss them with children, find the right solution, and always emphasize that under no circumstances should they panic. The main task is to save yourself and report the incident to adults in a timely manner.
Parents, do not spare the time spent and try to discuss the algorithm of actions in the following situations with your child:
If there are no adults at home, and someone is trying to open the door.
You need to call your father or mother, and only then dial the emergency services
or the police. The conversation with the specialist may drag on, and during this time, the adults will be able to call the neighbors and warn them of the danger.
Smoke is coming from the outlet, and there is no one at home.
You need to quickly leave the premises and dial 112. While the emergency services are en route to the fire, it is best to ask your neighbors for help. It is strictly forbidden to attempt to extinguish the fire yourself!
If you smell gas at home.
You should immediately leave the apartment, ring your neighbors' doorbell, and ask them to call the emergency response service. If there is no one in the neighboring apartments, you must contact your parents.
If you are attacked by a pack of dogs on your way from school.
The most important thing in this situation is to remain calm, without provoking the animals to attack. Do not look the dogs in the eyes, but you can distract their attention with any object: it could be a cap, an umbrella, or a notebook. You should carefully throw the object to the side, and then gradually move away from the pack, without turning your back to them.
