Uniting people with a creative idea of labor – a 100-year-old veteran on May Day
The recently celebrated 100th birthday of Alexander Simonovich Shvanshtein from Vitebsk still has a sharp mind; the veteran is not leaving optimism and a thirst for life. And his favorite profession helps him in this. To this day, the Vitebsk resident, who for many years was the chief mechanic in the sewing industry, repairs a wide variety of equipment. For example, a month ago he brought a sewing machine brought to his home back into operation. He laughs that his hands remember, and his head works, so he always loved and knew how to work. Restoring the former glory of the Labor Day in our country is a very correct decision, believes Alexander Shvanshtein:
– Labor always ennobles, sets the right mood, unites people for creation, for something good, necessary, constructive. As long as I can remember, I worked tirelessly. First as chief mechanic in the "Pobeda" sewing artel, then at the second sewing factory (now "Vitebchanka"), and finally until retirement at Vocational School No. 29. Of course, I participated in the May Day demonstrations, and I remember how large-scale and massive they were in Vitebsk. For our family personally, May 1st celebrations acquired a personal meaning. My daughter Maya was born on this day.
