The regional stage of the republican subject Olympiad has started in Vitebsk
Over a thousand schoolchildren in the Vitebsk region are competing for the title of experts in 18 academic subjects. From January 9 to 13, the third (regional) stage of the republican subject Olympiad is being held in Vitebsk, Polotsk, and Orsha.
– For students, this is not only a responsible and exciting test of their school knowledge. Victory in the third (regional) stage of the republican Olympiad gives the right to enroll in the country's universities without entrance examinations in specialties in demand by the economy, the list of which is determined by the Ministry of Education, and in regional universities in accordance with the subject profile, which is enshrined in Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 2 of January 3, 2023, – noted Elena Bogdanovich, First Deputy Head of the Main Department for Education of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
In Vitebsk, young intellectuals are competing in 15 subjects. Adherents of the queen of sciences – mathematics – are competing at the Vitebsk State Technological College. Experts in the language of Pushkin and Tolstoy are at the regional institute for the development of education. Students are completing tasks in biology, chemistry, labor training, and geography at the Vitebsk State Technical College.
More than 70 young talents who chose physics as their main subject, and 25 talented students interested in space, stars, and planets were welcomed by Elena Bogdanovich during the opening of the physics and astronomy Olympiad at the Vitebsk State College of Light Industry and Technology. She noted that the most global inventions in the world were made by physicists. Among them, there have always been more men, but the female physicist Maria Sklodowska-Curie surpassed all representatives of the stronger sex by discovering radioactive elements, which had the most powerful impact on the development of science.
– Discoveries are still ahead for each of the students, and possibly those that will go down in history, – noted Elena Bogdanovich. – The best of the best schoolchildren will be included in the Vitebsk region's national team and will go to the final, republican stage of the subject Olympiad, which will take place during the spring break. In 2022, the region's national team took first absolute place in the final republicanRepublican stage of the Olympiad in academic subjects and brought 119 diplomas from the capital, 10 of which belong to physicists and astronomers. This indicates the highest level of training and motivation of the students, – emphasized Elena Bogdanovich. – I would like to repeat such success this year.
The chairman of the jury of the regional stage of the physics and astronomy Olympiads, Sergey Vabishchevich, head of the physics department of Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk, took the opportunity to invite students to enroll in the new in-demand specialty "Computer Physics".
And the director of the College of Light Industry and Technology, Elena Kuchinskaya, suggested that schoolchildren, in their free time from classes, familiarize themselves with the information collection dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the region about the achievements of the Vitebsk region and its famous natives.
The participants of the Olympiad were wished new achievements by the chairman of the regional public observation commission at the main department of justice of the regional executive committee, chairman of the city organization of the Belarusian Peace Foundation Vladimir Katashuk and deputy head of the administration of the Oktyabrsky district Tatyana Ignatkova, emphasizing that it is best to engage in science and create under a peaceful sky.
