The renovated sports complex 'Olimpiets' has opened in Barani, Orsha district
This was stated by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at the grand opening ceremony. The modernization project, including major repairs, was implemented under Decree No. 506 "On the Development of Orsha District of Vitebsk Region." The general contractor for the work was "Belaya Rus XXI vek" LLC. The renovation lasted only 9 months, during which a significant volume of work was completed.
– In small towns like Baran, it is necessary to create infrastructure to ensure comfortable living for people of all ages, – emphasized Nikolai Sherstnev. – The sports complex should become a center for health and sports for all residents of the city. When it operates at full capacity, when everyone finds an activity to their liking here, we can confidently say that the funds invested here were not in vain. We are doing all this to improve the health of the population.
The head of the region noted that sports facilities in the cities and towns of the Dvina region are opening with enviable regularity – much is being done to encourage children, youth, and adults to engage in sports and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
– I remember this stadium, which seemed huge to me in my childhood, – Nikolai Sherstnev told the residents of Baran present at the ceremony. – It was built in 1974 by the "Krasny Oktyabr" plant. As a schoolboy, I trained here and participated in competitions. Over 46 years, it fell into disrepair, but the demand was, is, and will remain. Therefore, we will continue to renovate and modernize facilities like this. At the same time, we will also improve the city itself.
Mikhail Portnoy, Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, who was present at the ceremony, added that great attention is paid to physical culture and sports, which have already become a hallmark of our country on the world stage. The Deputy Head of the Ministry noted that it is extremely important today to maintain one's health and physical fitness. As an example to follow, he cited the merits and achievements in sports of Nikolai Sherstnev, calling him the most sporting chairman in the country.
Today, the "Olimpiec" sports complex includes a standard-sized football field with natural turf, a multifunctional ice hockey rink with artificial turf and a mini-football field, a gym and fitness rooms, a workout area, outdoor exercise equipment, a ski base, skate rental, utility rooms, and changing rooms.
