Address by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee N. Sherstnev
February 15 marks the Day of Remembrance of Soldiers-Internationalists.
Our compatriots bravely and with dignity proved themselves in local wars and conflicts that occurred in various parts of the globe in the second half of the 20th century. The war in Afghanistan became the longest and most tragic for us, but there were also military conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Angola, and other regions of the planet. They affected the destinies of tens of thousands of people.
In the Vitebsk region, there are more than five thousand soldiers-internationalists. 2020 participants of local wars and conflicts are members of the public association "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan". Mothers and widows cherish the bright memory of the sons and husbands who died in battles. About 600 participants of the battles died in peacetime.
We mourn for those who died in hostilities and those who died after the war, we will remember the military feat of soldiers and officers who, despite mortal danger, honorably fulfilled their military duty.
Bowing to the courage of the fallen, we have no right to forget about the living veterans of local wars and conflicts, about those who today preserve and develop glorious patriotic traditions, and multiply the wealth of their native land with conscientious labor.
I wish you, dear soldiers-internationalists, your families and loved ones health, happiness, peace of mind, peace and well-being!
Sincerely,
Nikolai Sherstnev,
Chairman
Vitebsk Regional
executive committee
