The appeal of speakers from six countries prompted the European Parliament to reconsider its position on Belarus's participation in EURONEST
March 31, Minsk / Yekaterina Nechayeva - BELTA /. The appeal of the speakers of the parliaments of six partner countries prompted the European Parliament to reconsider its position on Belarus's participation in EURONEST. This was stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko today at a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Igor Likhov, BELTA correspondent reports.
According to Vladimir Andreichenko, this appeal "had an effect, the European Parliament could not decide how to form the Belarusian delegation and postponed the consideration of this issue."
Vladimir Andreichenko thanked his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Litvin for the fact that the Ukrainian parliament signed the message of the six partner states to the European Parliament stating that they do not see their participation in EURONEST without the full-fledged, equal participation of the National Assembly of Belarus in EURONEST. Vladimir Andreichenko believes that much will depend on the further position of the parliaments of the six partner countries (Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine).
Commenting on the results of Igor Likhov's activities as Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus, the speaker of the Belarusian parliament noted that very fruitful work had been done, a great personal contribution had been made to the development of bilateral cooperation, and the diplomatic mission is concluding on a high note. According to him, a number of visits at the highest and high levels were organized.
Vladimir Andreichenko believes that "a new chapter has been opened in the development of parliamentary relations between Belarus and Ukraine." He drew attention to the fact that on the day of the start of the spring session on April 2, deputies plan to ratify three Belarusian-Ukrainian documents: the treaty on the state border and on the transfer of convicted persons for serving sentences, as well as the agreement on visa-free travel for citizens.
In turn, Igor Likhov called these documents "vital." "There is nothing protocol about them, they will affect the lives of tens and hundreds of thousands of people," the ambassador said.
The participants of the meeting also noted that a visit of the President of Ukraine to Belarus is expected in the near future. According to Vladimir Andreichenko, this visit will set new tasks for the countries. "There are still many issues in interregional cooperation that have not been properly worked out. The implementation of these projects requires little money, possibly the creation of joint ventures, the development of cross-border trade," the Chairman of the House of Representatives noted. -0-
