Public inspectors and schoolchildren of the Vitebsk region will solve the housing problem of feathered friends on Bird Day

March 29, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Public environmental inspectors and schoolchildren will solve the housing problem of feathered birds in the Vitebsk region on the International Day of Birds on April 1, the chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Tatyana Yasiulina, told a BELTA correspondent. Traditionally, many environmental events will be held on this bird day, the main event of which will be the hanging of titmouse houses and starling houses, made by schoolchildren under the guidance of adults, in parks, squares, and forest areas. For example, in the Sharkovshchyna district, public environmental inspector Valery Kovalyonok is building architectural masterpieces for songbirds. His starling houses are more like palaces, decorated with turrets and carved openings. The nature lover makes them from scrap materials. Even old buckets and barrels are used. As for the public inspector, one of the most famous ornithologists in the CIS, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov Vladimir Ivanovsky, conducts master classes on building artificial nests throughout the year, not only with schoolchildren but also with everyone who wishes. His nests are designed for birds of prey; for a hobby or an osprey to settle in its home, it must not only be built correctly but also installed in the right place. Vladimir Ivanovsky teaches all this to those who care about nature. He plans to celebrate the International Day of Birds on the Yelnya bog (Miory district), where he will hang artificial nests for birds of prey. It is worth noting that people have been building artificial nests for birds, for example, for white storks, for a long time. In the mid-20th century, due to the widespread use of chemicals in agriculture, it became necessary to build artificial nests for rare bird species. The International Day of Birds is celebrated in honor of the signing of the International Convention for the Protection of Birds on April 1, 1906. -0-
