One of the largest climbing walls in Belarus will open in Horadok
The climbing wall will be located in the large hall of Secondary School No. 2 in Horadok, which has undergone renovation. This school hosts a sports tourism club. "The width of the climbing wall is 12 m, and the height is 6 m. In terms of its size and level, it is among the top five climbing walls in the country. I know there is also a very high (14 m) climbing wall in Vitebsk at the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which is used on a voluntary basis. Ours consists of five routes, meaning 10 people can work simultaneously in pairs. In addition to the climbing wall, two tracks for tourist-applied all-around competitions have been equipped in the hall. The preparation of the premises, the purchase of equipment and the climbing wall were funded by the district budget, saved from the optimization of the education institution network," explained Vladimir Novichenok, head of the education, sports, and tourism department of the district executive committee.
He noted that if previously children trained in a small hall, the walls of which were an attraction of passages, ascents, and descents with the use of safety equipment, then with the appearance of a real climbing wall, this direction is guaranteed special popularity.
"There are many who wish to join the club, so we urgently need another coach. We are looking for young staff, especially since in the future we plan to use the climbing wall for commercial purposes as well – for all lovers of active recreation," added Vladimir Novichenok. A tourist festival is planned for the opening of the new facility. School teams from the region will compete in rock climbing and tourist-applied all-around competitions, and master-of-sport performances invited from Minsk are expected.
"Tourism in our district has begun to develop actively thanks to enthusiasts. Seeing people's interest, we intend to continue what has been started and will allocate funds to increase the area of this climbing wall by approximately another 60%," the interlocutor shared his plans.
