Eleven districts of the Vitebsk region have started harvesting early potato varieties

August 25, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovetov - BELTA /. Farms in 11 districts of the Vitebsk region have started harvesting early potato varieties, a BELTA correspondent was informed at the committee for agriculture and food of the regional executive committee.

As of August 25, potatoes have been harvested from an area of almost 97 hectares, or 1.5% of the area to be harvested. 3.5 thousand tons have been dug, with an average yield of 365.2 centners per hectare. The largest areas for this crop were sown in Vitebsk (almost 1.1 thousand hectares) and Tolochin (620 hectares) districts, where RUP "Tolochin Cannery" and SPC "Kolkhoz "Olgovskoye" of Vitebsk district are located, which are the largest potato-specializing farms in the region. Thus, in the Tolochin district, potatoes have been harvested from an area of 45.5 hectares, over 2.3 thousand tons of this crop have been dug with an average yield of almost 514 centners per hectare. In total, potatoes are to be harvested from an area of about 6.7 thousand hectares in the region. Compared to 2010, the potato field has expanded by 25%. Mass harvesting of this crop is planned to begin in the first ten days of September.

In seven districts, farms have started harvesting vegetable crops, mainly for supply to trade organizations and some specialized institutions (kindergartens, military units, etc.). Harvesting of cabbage has begun in Vitebsk, Lepel, Orsha, and Polotsk districts; a total of almost 16 hectares out of 275 hectares to be harvested have been harvested, with 445 tons collected at an average yield of 281.5 centners per hectare. In addition, Vitebsk and Orsha districts are harvesting carrots and beets.

Winter cereals have been sown on an area of over 2.7 thousand hectares, or 1.1% of the planned amount.

Cereals and leguminous crops have been mown on almost 402.4 thousand hectares, or 91.1%. 1 million 210 thousand tons of grain have been threshed with an average yield of 30.1 centners per hectare.

Forage corn has been mown on 7.2 thousand hectares, or almost 7% of the plan. The gross harvest of green mass is about 220 thousand tons, and the average yield exceeds 300 centners per hectare.-0-
