An official delegation from the Embassy of Sweden has arrived in the Vitebsk region for a two-day visit
As noted by Vladimir Penin, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, during a working meeting at the Regional Executive Committee, which marked the beginning of the partners' interaction on Vitebsk land, cooperation between Vitebsk region and Sweden is actively developing. Mutual trade is growing, and there are reserves for ensuring its balance. Today, it is important to focus efforts on developing industrial cooperation, for which the region is ready to create the necessary conditions and provide support in implementing plans. This direction of negotiations was also supported by the Swedish guests.
The official delegation, headed by H.E. Ms. Christina Johannesson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Republic of Belarus, includes more than half of its members representing business, including IKEA.
— We have come to the Vitebsk region as a large team, thereby emphasizing our serious interest in developing cooperation with you, primarily in the economic sphere, — noted Christina Johannesson. — Our businesses are showing interest, in particular, in presence in the FEZ "Vitebsk," the development of which clearly shows that the region is ready to work with foreign investors.
According to her, the directions of business interaction are also predetermined by the similarity of Vitebsk region to Swedish regions, both in terms of climatic conditions and natural resources. Therefore, among the priority areas of economic partnership is woodworking.
Business representatives will visit JSC "Vitebskdrev", "Vitebskiye Kovry", "Vityaz", "Naftan", as well as LLC "Avestra Bituminous Materials", which was established with the participation of Swedish capital in the territory of FEZ "Vitebsk" and in March this year begins the construction of a plant for the production of polymer-modified bitumen.
The cultural program of the visit includes Gymnasium No. 2, Technological University and Veterinary Academy in the regional center, as well as Polotsk State University and a theatrical performance at the Vitebsk Regional Library dedicated to the 75th anniversary of one of the most famous characters of the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren - Pippi Longstocking.
