About 10 km of garlands will light up on street Christmas trees in Vitebsk
The largest district of Vitebsk, Pervomaysky, will have about 10 Christmas trees. Four of them have already been installed in the rapidly growing Bilevo microdistricts, which are home to many families, including large ones. On New Year's Eve, considering the epidemiological situation, they will likely prefer to visit a Christmas tree closer to home. "In total, about 10 km of garlands will be lit in the city, not including the illumination of the main Christmas tree and LED structures on Victory Square," said Andrey Boskov.
As for the city streets, which usually sparkle with an abundance of festive lights, everything will remain as it was last year. "The situation is not easy, including with financing, so we are trying to maintain last year's illumination regime," explained the chief engineer of Gorсsvet.
The illumination of city buildings on the main streets will be switched on according to a schedule. On weekdays, Vitebsk houses and enterprises will be illuminated approximately from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and on holidays, the illumination will not be turned off until 4:00 AM.
"We would like to create a festive mood for the residents of Vitebsk even in this situation. Usually, the main New Year's celebrations take place on the central square near the city's main Christmas tree. However, this year, considering the pandemic situation, we urge citizens to take care of their health and avoid large crowds. Each district of Vitebsk has its own small Christmas trees, which we are trying to decorate in an original way to bring joy to the city's residents and remind them that the New Year is a joyous holiday," emphasized Andrey Boskov.
