The National Archives of Belarus holds approximately 10,000 units of personal fonds materials
June 23, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. The archive of personal documents, being compiled at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, already contains about 10,000 items, Director of the National Archives Vyacheslav Selemenev told a BELTA correspondent. He took part in the presentation of the collection of documents "Vitebsk Region Liberated: October 1943 - December 1945", which took place today in Vitebsk.
The National Archives constantly carries out work to identify such documents, search for and accept for storage materials from personal archives, which are being compiled in the archive of personal documents. Unique documents and photographic materials related to various periods of Belarusian history are found in personal collections, Vyacheslav Selemenev noted. Over the past two years alone, archivists have accepted documents from the personal archives of prominent domestic state and public figures Kirill Mazurov, Alexander Aksyonov, leaders of the partisan and underground movement Vasily Korzh, Vasily Kozlov, Ivan Klimov, and others.
Materials from personal collections are usually small; few people meticulously engage in forming a personal archive. They are mainly transferred to the National Archives for storage thanks to relatives. Recently, unique documents from the personal archive of a commissar of one of the partisan brigades operating in Belarus were donated to the National Archives. They were accidentally discovered in one of the regions of Russia, where their owner lived after the war. Among these materials were interesting documents from 1943: original reports, reports from a partisan commander, and other evidence from that period of the Great Patriotic War, Vyacheslav Selemenev said. -0-
