About 100 trucks of garbage and snow were removed by Vitebsk residents during the city-wide clean-up day, which took place in the regional center on March 27, the deputy head of the city economy department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Mamaev, told a BELTA correspondent. About 3,000 citizens took part in the first clean-up of Vitebsk this year. With joint efforts, 700 cubic meters of snow and 240 cubic meters of snow and ice were removed from the city streets. "However, it was not possible to achieve a spring shine in the regional center from the first attempt," the interlocutor stated. The streets of Tereshkova, Gagarin, Zhestkova, Lazo, Soviet Army Street, Leningradskaya, Pokrovskaya, Gorky, Herzen, P. Brovki, and the end of Frunze Avenue still remain in an unseemly state. The month-long improvement campaign, announced in Vitebsk from March 25 to April 30, will help achieve the desired result. In order to more actively involve residents and representatives of organizations of various forms of ownership in this event, the city executive committee decided to provide support to the participants of the campaign: with a special mark from the administration of their district, transport with garbage at the city landfill and a special site will be accepted free of charge, Alexander Mamaev added. -0-
