About 1.4 thousand residents of the Vitebsk region have been employed in newly created jobs

In the first quarter of 2016 alone, about 1.4 thousand citizens were employed in the Vitebsk region through the creation of new enterprises in newly created jobs, which accounted for slightly less than half of the annual target.

An increase in investment activity is noted in six regions of the region: Vitebsk, Gluboksky, Gorodoksky, Miorsky, Postavsky, and Ushachsky districts. The largest number of investment agreements (60 percent of the total number) were signed in Vitebsk. In total, since 2009, the regional executive committee has concluded 173 investment agreements for a total amount of about 23.3 trillion Belarusian rubles with project implementation deadlines until 2020.

Attracting investment in fixed capital from foreign sources remains a key indicator of economic development today. Currently, its implementation is ensured only by several projects: the construction of the Vitebsk and Polotsk HPPs and the BelRosTorgSbyt LLC complex in the Dubrovensky district, as well as the modernization of Naftan OJSC and Orsha Linen Mill OJSC.
