March 24, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Vitebsk is saying goodbye to winter today and sprucing up its ancient streets and new avenues. A city-wide clean-up day has been announced in the regional center by a decision of the city executive committee, the chief specialist of the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Mamaev, told a BELTA correspondent. According to him, about 20,000 people are taking part in the clean-up day. Employees of enterprises and organizations, pupils and students, military personnel, and officials of the city executive committee have come out to clean the adjacent territories. Special attention is paid to the riverbanks of the Vitba and Western Dvina rivers. As Alexander Mamaev noted, enterprises and organizations can take their solid municipal waste to the landfill free of charge on the clean-up day, and accumulated snow to the snow storage site. And as if in gratitude to the citizens for today's work, the first harbingers of spring - crocuses - have bloomed in the city. According to the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, active work on landscaping and sanitary order restoration after winter has begun throughout the region. Ecologists have already inspected 1,500 facilities. About 300 violation reports have been drawn up against legal entities, officials, and individuals. -0-
