About 250 residents of the Vitebsk region registered with an oncologist during the skin cancer screening campaign
May 20, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. About 250 residents of the Vitebsk region have signed up for an appointment with an oncologist during the skin cancer screening campaign, Mikhail Skudsky, head of the polyclinic of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Oncology Center, told a BELTA correspondent.
The campaign was held from May 8 to May 18. During this period, doctors of all specialties from various healthcare institutions in the region who suspected skin-related neoplasms in their patients were offered an oncologist consultation. About 250 people decided to take advantage of this offer. On a specially designated day, May 23, they will have appointments at the polyclinic of the regional oncology center. Oncologists will provide consultations regarding their diseases and decide on treatment.
The campaign is due to the fact that skin cancer has become the leading type of malignant neoplasms in the population structure, the source noted. According to the results of January-April, its share was 15.6%. Breast cancer follows closely with 11%. Prostate cancer ranks third, and lung cancer is fourth.
Previously, the oncology center had already conducted similar campaigns to detect melanoma and breast cancer. 400 people sought consultations for breast diseases. During the examination, mastopathy was detected in 220 of them, three diagnoses of "cancer" and several dozen "fibroadenomas" were made. At the same time, the main goal of such campaigns is to draw people's attention to their health. It is better to address all related problems and issues in a timely manner, rather than occasionally or when possible, as early detection of a disease is directly related to the success of its treatment, Mikhail Skudsky emphasized. -0-
