About 370,000 residents of the Vitebsk region plan to participate in the republican subbotnik
About 370 thousand residents of the Vitebsk region are planning to participate in the republican subbotnik (volunteer work day), as reported today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, head of the regional headquarters for holding the subbotnik, Vladimir Terentyev.
"Subbotniks are a good tradition inherited from Soviet times. Such events provide an opportunity for everyone to tidy up and improve their land.
It is expected that about 370 thousand people will participate in the subbotnik in the Vitebsk region, including about 70 thousand pensioners, students, pupils, schoolchildren, and unemployed individuals. Considering that the current year is the Year of Culture and the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, we will be working on cultural sites and memorial complexes such as "Rylionki" in the Dubrovno district, "Urochishche Peski" in Polotsk. The leadership of the regional executive committee will be working at the "Proryv" memorial in the Ushachi district," said Vladimir Terentyev.
On the territory of the "Proryv" memorial, curbstone laying, tree planting, painting, and other works will be carried out. Vladimir Terentyev named several more important sites where the labor force will be concentrated in the region. In the Verkhnedvinsk district, work will be carried out in the arboretum; in Dubrovno, on the territory of the Bernardine monastery (historical and cultural value); in the Beshenkovichi district, the main site for efforts will be the Holy Trinity Church in Ostrovno; in the Vitebsk district, the "Spartakovets" health resort will be improved. In addition, about 500 trees are planned to be planted in the territory of the latter district, and new alleys will appear in the Liozno and Shumilino districts.
The Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Regional Executive Committee reported that the decision on the reconstruction and restoration of the "Breakthrough" memorial was made in 2015. This issue is under the personal control of the region's leadership. One of the authors of the memorial complex, the famous Belarusian architect Yuri Gradov, was approved as the scientific supervisor of the restoration work at the site by the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Culture.
