Approximately $4 million will be allocated for the conversion of the Vitebsk heating plant "Ruba" into a mini-CHP plant

September 10, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. $4 million will be allocated for the transformation of the Vitebsk "Ruba" boiler house into a mini-CHP plant, informed the head of the Vitebsk Regional Department for Supervision of Rational Use of Fuel and Energy Resources Alexander Kravchenko to a BELTA correspondent. The reconstruction of the boiler house, located in the Zheleznodorozhny district of the regional center, is planned to be carried out in 2010. In accordance with the project, a 4 MW cogeneration unit will be installed there. This will allow the facility to generate not only thermal but also electrical energy. The latter will be used for the needs of the boiler house, and the surplus will be sold to other consumers. Currently, the thermal load of the boiler house during the heating season is 15 Gcal, and in the off-season - about 3 Gcal. The payback period of the project will be 2.7 years. Its implementation will increase the fuel utilization factor by more than two times to 85-95%. At the same time, savings in fuel and energy resources are expected at the level of 6 thousand tons of conventional fuel. Financing will be carried out through borrowed funds from the World Bank (WB), whose experts visited the boiler house the day before, Alexander Kravchenko added. The "Ruba" boiler house is among the facilities that will be transformed into CHP plants under the "Energy Efficiency Improvement" project. For the implementation of this project worth $193.1 million, the WB provided Belarus with a loan of $125 million. -0-
