About 600 people and 350 units of equipment are involved in clearing republican highways in the Vitebsk region, said Leonid Smuklavsky, Deputy General Director of the Vitebskavtodor Republican Unitary Enterprise of Automobile Roads, told a BELTA correspondent today. A round-the-clock work regime has been organized due to snowfall. According to Leonid Smuklavsky, as of the morning of February 1, the condition of all 2.8 thousand km of roads managed by Vitebskavtodor was assessed as satisfactory, and traffic movement was ensured. Clearing of bus stops and exits, as well as gritting with anti-icing mixture, is currently underway. According to the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, no emergencies caused by snowfall have been recorded by the duty services. The work of utility services is proceeding as normal. The Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring reported that almost a ten-day norm of precipitation fell in the western regions over three days, from January 29 to January 31. The snow cover depth increased from 4 cm in the eastern regions to 11 cm in the western part of the region during these days. -0-
