About Br50 billion has been spent on the construction of new apartments for residents of 8 emergency houses on Mira and Chapayeva streets in Vitebsk, Vladimir Belous, Chairman of the Construction and Architecture Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, told reporters, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. BELTA.

"In the regional center, the resettlement and demolition of dilapidated apartment buildings in the central part of the city is being completed. These works are carried out in accordance with the protocol of instructions of the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets dated April 8, 2010. A huge amount of work has been done over the past period. Of the 8 houses built in 1954-56, one remains to be demolished - this will be done within a week. Most residents have already received new apartments. The remaining 5 families who have not lived at their place of registration in recent years (rented apartments or lived in dormitories) will receive housing by the end of the year," said Vladimir Belous.

He stressed that the work on resettling and demolishing dilapidated housing in the region is carried out constantly, but the regional executive committee and city authorities were solving the problem on such a large scale for the first time. "There were 272 apartments with a total area of 8,782 sq.m. in the eight emergency houses. In exchange for dilapidated housing without sewage, water supply and with stove heating, Vitebsk residents received improved apartments in new buildings. A total of 263 apartments were allocated: 157 one-room, 87 two-room, and 19 three-room. The total area of the allocated housing is 13,235 sq.m. During the resettlement process, the authorities met the residents' wishes and tried to allocate apartments in the same or neighboring houses. Now most of the residents of the demolished microdistrict are already settling into apartments on Gagarin and Titov streets in the Bilevo microdistrict. 8 apartments were allocated from the secondary housing stock," explained the chairman of the committee.

According to him, the implementation of this project brought a double benefit to the city. Firstly, it was possible to solve the housing problem, which was acute in Vitebsk since the 80s of the last century. Secondly, the regional center received a site for construction in the central part of the city. "This is very valuable because a developed infrastructure has already been created there, and large investments in engineering communications are not needed. A new residential area has been designed here, the construction of which has begun. One 102-apartment building has already been commissioned, and in the first quarter of 2014, a building with 206 apartments will be put into operation. The plans include the construction of 3 more modern residential buildings. Thus, in 2015, a modern residential area of 5 buildings with more than 590 apartments will appear in the city," said Vladimir Belous, adding that the governor's decision to resettle and demolish houses on Chapayev and Mira streets was quite difficult to implement, but absolutely correct in essence.
