About ten EU TACIS program projects have been implemented in the Vitebsk region
November 24, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. About ten projects of the European Union's TACIS program have been implemented in the Vitebsk region, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Economy Committee told a BELTA correspondent.
Together with partners from Latvia and Lithuania, the Councils of Deputies of Braslav, Verkhnedvinsk, Glubokskoye, Miory, and Postavy districts formed a voluntary association - Euroregion "Lake Land", within the framework of which the main TACIS projects were implemented. Belarusian partners attracted over 700 thousand euros for their implementation. For example, under the project "Lake Land - Rural Tourism Management and Marketing", the Braslav District Council received a grant of $2,000 for technical equipment. In addition, projects were implemented to create a unified Latvia-Belarus information center and to develop a network of cycling routes in the Lake Land. The project "Art Without Borders" contributed to the popularization of Latvian and Belarusian cultures in the border regions, allowing people to learn more about the works of Marc Chagall and Mark Rothko, and fostering business contacts between the museums of these artists.
By mid-2010, another TACIS program project, "Bella Dvina - Traveling Across Borders, Discovering Culture, Enjoying Nature of the Western Dvina/Daugava Region," will be implemented in the region. This project is the only one in the region where a Belarusian participant acts as the main partner, with a budget of about 500 thousand euros.
The results of the EU TACIS program in the Vitebsk region will be summarized on November 25 in Vitebsk. It is expected that the regional conference will also discuss the prospects for the region's participation in new EU external assistance programs.-0-
