About a hundred anglers will gather to test their "Pike Luck" on the Braslav Lakes on January 30

About a hundred contenders for a free permit for amateur fishing on the Braslav Lakes for the entire 2010 are expected at the ice fishing festival "Pike Luck" on January 30. The sports fishing competition will be held for the second time in the Braslav district, Vladimir Petkevich, leading specialist of the tourism department of the Braslav Lakes National Park, told a BELTA correspondent. Applications are coming from all over Belarus. Russian and Latvian ice fishing enthusiasts are also going to try their "pike luck". The final number of festival participants will be known only early in the morning on January 30: applications will be accepted until 7:00 AM. As Vladimir Petkevich noted, the weather will favor fishermen. Forecasters promise a side wind and an air temperature of minus 8 degrees, and with a light frost, pike readily bite on a jig. The venue for the winter fishing festival has again been chosen as one of the most beautiful lakes in Belarus - Drivyaty. About 30 species of fish live here. Winners will be determined in several nominations, the main ones being "Pike Luck" and "Bream and others are also fish". Prizes will be awarded not only to the owner of the largest catch, but also to those whom fishing luck bypasses. The one who catches the largest pike will be smiled upon by "pike luck": he will receive a free permit for amateur fishing on the Braslav Lakes for the entire 2010. The organizers have taken into account that fishing as a type of recreation is increasingly preferred by women; the luckiest fisherwoman will receive an award. Young anglers will not be left without attention either - prizes have also been established for them. The fishing festival, as it should be, will end with fish soup and a hot bath. The participants of the competition will be hospitably welcomed by the "Drivyaty" recreation center. The competition will be held in accordance with the rules of fisheries and fishing. A permit for amateur fishing can be purchased directly at the competition venue. -0-
